Permanent Representative Kok Li Peng and Deputy Director/ASEAN Political-Security Community Shivakumar Nair took part in the Jakarta Forum on Exploring ASEAN-China Partnership on Blue Economy on 16 July 2020 via videoconference. The Forum provided an opportunity for officials, experts and scholars from ASEAN and China to exchange views on the blue economy. In his remarks, Nair proposed that three key principles, namely the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, connectivity, and maritime safety and security, should guide ASEAN-China discussions on blue economy cooperation.
