MFA Press Statement: Visit of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Mr Le Luong Minh, 7 to 9 September 2012

Vietnam Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Luong Minh, who is visiting Singapore from 7 to 9 September 2012, paid a courtesy call on Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam today.  Deputy Minister Minh has been nominated by Vietnam for the post of ASEAN Secretary-General from 2013 to 2017.  During the meeting, Minister Shanmugam reaffirmed Singapore's commitment to ASEAN and exchanged views with Deputy Minister Minh on developments in ASEAN and the region.  Minister reiterated Singapore's support for Deputy Minister Minh's forthcoming appointment as ASEAN Secretary-General.  While in Singapore, Deputy Minister Minh also met with other officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
