Norway reaffirms commitment to strengthen partnership with ASEAN
JAKARTA, 24 July 2017— Norway expressed its commitment to strengthen and deepen cooperation with ASEAN and the ASEAN Member States., The new Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to ASEAN, Morten Høglund, conveyed this message when he presented his Letter of Credence to theSecretary-General of ASEAN Le Luong Minh at the ASEAN Secretariat on 21 July.
Secretary-General Minh congratulated Ambassador Høglund and stated that Norway was the first Sectoral Dialogue Partner of ASEAN to accredit a dedicated Ambassador to ASEAN, which demonstrates Norway’s commitment to its engagement and partnership with ASEAN. He also expressed appreciation to Norway for supporting a number of joint cooperation activities across the pillars of the ASEAN Community, particularly in the areas of peace and reconciliation, judiciaries, disaster management and humanitarian assistance.
Ambassador Høglund acknowledged that ASEAN has been playing an important role in maintaining peace, security and stability and promoting economic development in the region. With its status of Sectoral Dialogue Partnership of ASEAN, he would work closely with the representatives of ASEAN Member States and the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta to further explore potential collaboration in the areas of mutual interest and benefit.
